Owner of Rive Gauche Meyer arrested on charge of 2.5 bln rbl theft
ST.PETERSBURG, Dec 9 (PRIME) -- The owner of cosmetics retailer Rive Gauche Avgust Meyer has been arrested on accusation of a 2.5 billion ruble theft, the joint press office of St. Petersburg courts said on Thursday.
"Two fraud episodes amounting to 1,428,677,453.77 rubles and 1,000,000,000 rubles are incriminated to Meyer," the statement read. Meyer's wife Inna is also accused and will be under house arrest.
Business daily Kommersant reported earlier that Meyer and his wife received 2.3 billion ruble loans for their previous retail project Ulmart from Sberbank, shortly before problems started in the retail chain. The company went bankrupt in 2020.
